Marriage License Requirements in Ottawa County

Michigan residents apply in the county where one of them lives. If you live in Ottawa County, go to the West Olive office. Out-of-state residents who plan to marry in Ottawa County apply here as well.
Michigan's 3-day waiting period applies. Your license is not valid until three days after the date of application. If you need to get married sooner, the county can waive that wait for a fee. The license then stays valid for 33 days from the application date, or 30 days if a waiver was used. An expired license cannot be used and requires a new application.
Both applicants must be 18 or older. Bring valid driver's licenses or state IDs showing current addresses, plus birth certificates or passports for both people. You will also need Social Security numbers, the full names and birthplaces of both parents, and the number of prior marriages. The clerk will give you required written educational materials about disease prevention as part of the process.
The license costs $20 for Michigan residents. Non-residents marrying in Ottawa County pay $30. The license is valid anywhere in Michigan. After your wedding, the officiant returns the signed certificate to the county clerk, and that becomes the permanent marriage record in Ottawa County.
